Ryedale Folk Museum was today at the Northallerton Home Grown Food Festival, it was nice to see so many people interested in the museum and the exhibits we took. There was also seed planting for children, making the plant pots from newspaper.  Don't forget to come and visit!

The Millennium Maze

The Millennium Maze is a fascinating feature of the museum.  It was made with pupils from Gillamoor School.  Bricks were made specially for the maze and several have the pupils initials and names on.  Over the years it had become rather overgrown as grass had gradually encroached on the bricks.  Here we see volunteer Tony removing the grass...
...and the maze in its former glory.

This cat is enjoying the glass furnace roof and the new hunting opportunities. Several tempting housemartins are nesting there.

The Model Village and Allotment

The model village is a popular attraction with all ages.  It was restored about six years ago and as with anything which is open to the elements it slowly deteriorates. Owing to frosts, wind and rain, there have been tiles slip and walls which have been damaged.  A team of volunteers recently spent a few hours assessing the damage and repairing and replacing tiles and stonework as necessary.  We are pleased to say that the model village is now looking rather splendid again.

The allotment is looking excellent too.  Here Roger is cutting the grass with the 1930s mower.
