Threshing Machine Tyres

Memories of September 2010 when tyres were fitted to the threshing machine.Made by Marsalls of Gainsborough, this model went out of production in 1870.  Volunteers Albert and Peter constructed the wheels. It was museum staff member Richard Bowman's first day at work as an apprentice when a large fire was lit to heat the iron tyres in order to fit them on the wheels. The heat was intense as can be seen by Albert's face!

As seen in May 2017

The floor in the Hayes photography studio needed repair.  Seems that rabbits are to blame.  Luckily we avoided an Alice in Wonderland situation and got it sorted!
